Yesterday was Memorial Day. I can’t help but think of all the men and women who fought and died for our country, and the Valor they showed. This is the Memorial Float from our village’s parade. It is unbelievably touching to see the veterans on the float paying tribute to their fallen comrades. I think there was a veteran from every conflict of the past 70 years.
I have heard many survivors over the years that, when interviewed, say that they weren’t being brave, or they’re not heroes, they were just doing what needed to be done. I disagree! They are brave, and they are heroes for this very reason – they did what needed to be done, regardless of their fear, regardless of the knowledge that they may not be among the living in the end. I submit two quotes that go hand in hand, describing our military men and women. Thank God for people like this!
Courage is almost a contradiction in terms.
It means a strong desire to live, taking the form of readiness to die.
Courage crawls atop fear and screams loud its mighty victory!
